Benedict XVI has claimed failing health for his decision to step down from the papacy. But ongoing power struggles and intrigue in the Vatican likely also played a role. The search for a successor could prove challenging.

The Pope is right and honest and courageous to take this decision!
The next pope will have difficulties because the Cardinalate is warped by 'the right', diocese have had unwelcomed bishops imposed on them... The good news is that the voice of the church is spoken through the laity and it but it might take time for 'ecclesial leaders' to sync with the sensus fidei. |

The long time covert scandalous revelations must have shocked the Pope to such an extent that its frail health is taking the toll. He deserves a dignified retirement. (vzc1943)
