Moscow is currently seeking to make "homosexual propaganda" a prosecutable offense. But in Germany, Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle has warned Russia's ambassador that the new legislation could aggravate European-Russian relations.

The opinion poll taken last year which found that almost two-thirds of Russians find homosexuality to be "morally unacceptable and worth condemning" would probably have a similar result in most western countries, if freedom of thought was really allowed. Can it be possible to call an illness a way of life? The one-third who viewed homosexuality as a result of "a sickness or psychological trauma" are probably nearer the point and a biological defect cannot really be considered to be a question of rights?
The difference between normal and abnormal is of course often not very clear, most of us regularly have colds during the winter, but few would regard this situation as normal. Mental illness can start at birth and accompany a person until death, but few would say this condition is a right! Nature for some reason does not permit two people of the same sex to produce children, so why on earth should they be allowed to adopt? Are we to consider ourselves cleverer than nature? From what we have done to the environment, there is little evidence of that! |
