Europe is furious with Israel for its plan to build 3,000 new settler units to punish the Palestinians, following their elevation to "non-member observer status" in the UN last week. While sanctions appear not to be on the table, German commentators say it is time to get tough with Israeli premier Netanyahu.

Why on earth are sanctions not on the table? Words are not enough to deal with politicians who are not honest and show no respect for the human-rights of other ethnic groups. Were the Israeli premier Netanyahu a German, his actions would be called racist and he would have been put before a court of law. Instead however, at least up until now, the German government has chosen to look the other way when war crimes have been committed by Israel and Frau Merkel has always, often wrongly, put all the blame on the Palestinians.

It is clearly time, that Germany reviews her stand on Wiedergutmachung. More than 95% of the people who lived in Germany and were legally adults are now dead and of the few survivors in that age group, another 95% not only were not involved in the Nazi crimes, but did not even know, that they were going on. If there were still some guilt to call penitence for, payments to the criminal state of Israel is not the way to go. Any further payments, if any should be made directly to those who have been personally persecuted by the Nazis.
