Default Out of the Margins: Shifting Demographics Change Face of US Campaigns

The United States, traditionally a land of immigrants, is on the verge of historic change, with non-Caucasian Americans poised to become the majority in the coming decades. Obama's recent victory has already shown how demographic shifts will change the political landscape.

The USA is a host of reasonings for it's own existence, most of which never really qualify the reality. There are a lot of statistics, many of which are falsified data based on circumstances, such as a high rate of cancer survival, in that testicular cancer is already easy to cure. All this supposedly good stuff about the USA is a justification for national-unity and pride, though I can never quite get rid of the feeling that the unity is shallow and only good for opportunists.

I feel best when I imagine a fractured world, a fractured USA. I want to live in Maine and imagine that Texas is a different country, one that I don't have to worry about or acknowledge as equal or relevant to me or my political view. I prefer in fact not to live in the USA. I have no desire to be part of the greater whole or to spread any kind of American democracy overseas. I want some kind of fantasy of northern peace with snow and ambiance, no rednecks, and everything in order and well-organized.

All the justifications for America's greatness only amount to a kind of psychological oppression by means of an obnoxious culture.

I don't even feel like it is my country even though I was born here.

Default There's no such thin as 'Caucasians'

"Obama owes his reelection to the success of these immigrants in the suburbs of Washington, DC, Denver, Miami, Los Angeles, and Raleigh, North Carolina".

No, he doesn't. The only truly succesful group of Latinos in the US are Cubans defectors from Castro's GULAG and their children. Who almost never vote for Democrats, like Obama.

Obama won largely with support of such outfits like racist La Rasa (which wants to make Spanish the official language of US, altough the country doesn't have an official language) and votes of illegal immigrants with phoney IDs hoping to get legalized through yet another amnesty and bring their wifes, sons, daughters, uncles, aunties, to to El Norte.

P.S. Can Del Spiegel staff explain to me what 'Caucasian' mean?

I know I am expected to mark that rubric during US Census, since I am not an 'Amerindian', 'Native American' (which describes 1st immigrants from NE Siberia) 'Asian' or 'African American'. And there's nothing else left.

But I am not from Caucasus and have no Caucasian roots.

So can some knowledgeable non-PC person tell me who I am?

thank you,

From slave trade of Africans to extermination of native red Indians there is a ocean of blood behind founding of modern America(same holds good to entire North and South America). Atleast this change(power shift) is not as brutal as the one that followed Naval expeditions of Columbus and other sailors. Unfortunately we live a short life to witness the historical changes, short stint of life deludes us to believe that life is static and boring - in reality change is constant and eternal.

Default Its about time

The USA, the country of my birth, made me proud throughout my early years, but when racism became the overt attempt to define our country, my thoughts began to change from pride to embarassment. To some degree this is still true, but for the most part it is relegated to the Republican wing of our, unfortunately limited, political parties.

The election of our President to his second term indicates the pendulum has once again, and fortunately, swung to a more encompassing electorate. We, that is to say the so called white citizenry of this nation, are finally learning to integrate our thought with the now diverse majority.

Militarily we may be the most powerful nation on earth, but that like the prejudice which once overshadowed our thought, and still does govern much of the thought in the world, must come to an end. No one asked to be born an American, a German, a Palestinian, an African or any other group. No one asked to be born into a rich or poor family. No one asked to be born, and if nothing else we all have that in common.

If we, not only the citizens of our nation, but also the citizens of the world recognize that simple fact we may begin to accept each other. The disparity between rich and poor, acceptance of religions that actually drive us apart, and the competition that makes up much of our politics will become passe and we can achieve world peace.

If we allow and accept diversity it will lead us to equality and respect.

Default Not everybody is enthusiastic about Obama

More than 100,000 Americans have petitioned the White House to allow their states to secede from the US, after President Barack Obama's re-election.

The appeals were filed on the White House's We the People website.

Most of the 20 states with petitions voted for Republican Mitt Romney.

In total, more than 20 petitions have been filed. One for Texas has reached the 25,000-signature threshold at which the White House promises a response.

By Monday night the White House had not responded.

Will the USA become like Uzbekistan after the fall of the Soviet Union, with white Americans leaving like Russians back to the country their ancestors came from?

Will the USA still have any value after the American empire is finished?

Would non-white immigrants still come to the USA if all the Caucasians left? I occasionally ask myself these questions.

I welcome them to secede. It would be like the velvet revolution. No more conflicts between Republicans and Democrats. I think it would be very peaceful afterwards. For some time I have entertained the idea of northern new england separating from the USA. I have zero love for those southerners. Vermont have been trying to secede since the Bush administration, so know that your Republican presidents have been pushing the north to this for some time.
