Sanctions against Tehran have made operations of Iran Air far more difficult in Europe, where the company is hardly able to purchase fuel any longer. Officials at the national airline complain of a "human rights violation."

...would be the following: every airplane needs an insurance. But iranian insurance companies are under embargo in Europe, and no european insurance company is allowed to deal with Iran Air or Mahan Air. So if an iranian airplane crashes in an EU country, nobody will pay for the damage.
