The Senkaku Islands are at the center of a conflict between Japan and China, which both lay claim to the tiny outcrops. The islands used to belong to a rich Japanese family, who recently sold them to the government. One of the members of the family told SPIEGEL that Tokyo should have done more to defend Japan's sovereignty.

"In the late 1960s, experts from the United Nations discovered the potential for oil deposits in the waters surrounding the islands. Nonetheless, the government in Tokyo placed its confidence in a pledge made during a 1978 visit to Japan by Deng Xiaoping, the Chinese reformer who led China toward a market economy. Deng indicated that China would do nothing to challenge Japan's claims to the islands for the time being. At the time, the Chinese leader was eagerly wooing the Japanese for their industrial expertise -- and for production plants, such as the ones that have recently been torched during the protests."
Please don't be biased against China and Chinese government all the time. What you said in this part is totally wrong and biased. The reader will certainly regard Chinese government as reliable and broke his words on this issue, which is incorret. Deng Xiaoping said "let's not discuss the island issue for now, let's leave it to our next gernaration ,let them to find a more creative way. Cooperation is more important than dispute" Like many Chinese, we want to read opinions outside China, as we know some of the Chinese press belong to the government and alway cover some part of the truth. We regards Spiegel is one of the most objective medias in the world. Buy if your magzine continue to cover all the chinese issues in such a wrong way, you will lost your credits piece by piece. Here is the vedio of Dengxiaoping's comments on Diaoyudao Island when he visited Japan in 1978, read it, just simply respect the truth. |

It's not fair that the world is so transfixed with some uninhabited islands and sea rocks called Senkaku/Diaoyu, and not caring much for the fate of whole people and cultures that are at this very moment being killed off and exterminated in the most barbaric and ruthless genocide by China's rulers.
Please, please, could the World please help save the Tibetan and Uighur people and cultures from extinction right on their own homelands in the hands of China's rulers. Before resolving the Senkaku/Diaoyu issue, they (China's rulers) must be kicked out of Tibet and East Turkistan (Sinkjiang) which they occupy illegally and criminally, and have been committing the most heinous genocidal crime against the Tibetan and Uighur people and cultures. Please, World, please help. |
