Germany's Constitutional Court cleared the way for the country to ratify the permanent euro rescue fund, the ESM, in a closely watched ruling last week. In a SPIEGEL interview, Bavarian Finance Minister Markus Söder expresses his concerns about the decision and calls for Germany's central bank to be given new supervisory powers.

Bavarian Finance Minister Markus Söder is correct in saying Germany should have more say on the disbursement of ESM funds.
Germany is blessed with the deep pockets, which also is the curse. Countries with less fiscally sound practices can't be allowed to fail (no matter how tempting), but German taxpayers shouldn't be expected to reward bad policies in other EU countries with trainloads of euros unless there is some significant German say in how those euros are used. |

For the very first time, I can agree with something Markus Söder has said.
Walking along Brighton front with my German born wife, I was schocked to be brawled at by one of my own countrymen, who obviously thought I was a tourist. His words; We want your money, but we do not want you. So Much for the united Europe! |
