The US Republican race*is dominated by ignorance, lies and scandals. The current crop of candidates have shown such a basic lack of knowledge that they make George W. Bush look like Einstein. The Grand Old Party is ruining the entire country's reputation.

While this commentary highlights the failings of the Republicans, it would be unwise to isolate criticism to just the Republicans.
This accusations/issues transcend beyond political parties and borders as it is always these types of individuals seek political office. In the US, the only salve for our conscience is the fact we can chooose our poison, while elsewhere it is decided for them. |

President Obama has been just as much an ignoramus.
He thinks Austrians speak Austrian. He paid tribute to the US Marine Corpse. He believes there are 57 states in the US. |

Author, you're quick to criticize Republicans for errors in their speech but let's take a look at Obama. Obama said the following;
There are 57 states. (only 50 last count) Iran is Arab. (don't think so) Europe is a country. (and Germany is a city) Intercontinental Railroad built during the civil war. (It's a Trans Continental railroad) He pronounced the word corpsmen incorrectly. Telling us Afghanistan speaks Arabic. Calling it the English Embassy instead of the British Embassy. Obama also said the "Bomb" was dropped on Pearl Harbor. (tell the Japanese that) And saying that the Alamo was during the War of 1812. (1836 off by 24 years) And Obama said Israel was a threat to . . . Israel. There's a lot more coming from Obama. Herr Marc Pitzke, you only show your ignorance or your prejudice. You probably believe in Global Warming too. You may think you're really cool and intelligent but we know better. Don't we. |

The GOP could save time and millions of dollars. Instead of
campaigning just give the candidates a intelligence cum general knowledge test. Then nominate the one with the lowest score. |

The problem described is symptomatic of right-wing monopoly ownership of the US media, which is also why an article like this one has to be published overseas. Democrats AND Republicans - the Punch and Judy of our one-party political puppet show - have encouraged and permitted this media consolidation. So now when the media is a right wing circus, Republican clowns are what gets on the air.
And arrogance is a problem. The Republicans are campaigning on the arrogance of sabotaging the US by neglecting the responsibilities of governance, blaming the resulting mess on Obama, and expecting the public to elect whatever Republican is offered. The Democrats are campaigning on the belief that no matter how bad the economy is, voters won't elect any of these Republican clowns. The entire Beltway, Republican or Democrat, is both out of touch with the real state of the nation, and in severe denial that there is a problem. Because they're sure they're all making an enormous fortune off the current system. Basically the American political class has allowed itself to be bribed by the aristocracy into betraying the public. Thus the electoral process is a joke, and the Beltway puts on a circus instead of governing. |

Mark Pitzke's article has all of this to say about Ron Paul:
"Ron Paul's fan club gets the more excited, the more puzzling his comments get." You are lying and obfuscating. ARE YOU ON THE PAYROLL OF The Republican National Committee or Obama's reelection committee? Ron Paul is always totally articulate, consistent and concise in his positions and comments. What A DISGUSTING LIE Mr. Pitzke's statement is. How "puzzling" are comments (paraphrased) like these: Our U.S. wars do no one any good. They only create people who hate us for killing their children, mothers and dads. Stop all the wars. Close our 700+ military bases and bring the troops home. America is broke. Stop the wars. The Federal Reserve is a private, unelected banking cartel that supports only bankrupt, criminal banks [n.b. Deutsche Bank] and is destroying the U.S. Dollar. The PATRIOT Act is unpatriotic. We never have to give up our liberties for security. We do not need to send billions of dollars to Israel. Israel has 200-300 nuclear weapons and can take care of itself. The TSA is violating our constitutional protection against unreasonable search and searches without a warrant. President Obama is violating the Constitutional and international law by having a "kill list" that includes American citizens. Obama's statements that he has the right to declare American citizens "enemy combatants" and send them to Guantanamo for "indefinite detention" are the very essence of tyranny and destroy our Constitution. The war on Libya was unconstitutional under the U.S. Constitution and a war of aggression under the Nuremberg Trial standards [I hope Mr. Pitzke as a German writer learned about and knows about those.] I would like to meet Mr. Pitzke because I want to meet a liar face-to-face to peacefully discuss with him why he lies about the one American presidential candidate (Democrat or Republican) who is for an end to illegal wars and an end to the growing police state in America. |

This reportage consistent with the highest standards of the Columbia School of Journalism.
Perhaps Mr. Pitzke should become a naturalized US Democrat so that he can help this benighted nation become much more like his beloved Germany. Germany has produced so many larger than life virtuous and ethical political figures in the last two centuries led millions to peace and prosperity. Reread the definitions of ignoramus and demagogue then reread your article. |

As an American it is refreshing to see a magazine say the succinct truth about the Republican candidates. What is disappointing, is that no respectable american magazine has the courage to do the same.
