Germany has many good points that I admire, such as it's general oppression of religion and cults such as Scientology, which I abhor. The Catholic tax that they put on registered Catholics is something I admire from afar. We have separation of church and state in the USA, but we are filled with religious nuts. Germany is the opposite, and I like it. Like that couple of Christians who received asylum in the bible belt of the USA. I don't like them. They are immature and finicky.

Germany is a bit too mainstream though. A hinterland such as Finland or Estonia has more appeal for being remote from mainstream culture. There is little poetry or sense of the infinite in mainstream USA or Germany.

What is it like teaching English in Germany? I have a TEFL certificate and teach English to African refugees inside the USA, so have some experience. Is there a demand for English teachers, maybe in the former East Germany where nobody thinks it's cool to live? I specifically enjoy depressing and cold areas that have atheists. I would think Russia, but it is not Atheist enough there. Russia is filled with clowns who are like born-again Christians. I read that depressing East Germany has the atheists.

One of the more remarkable things I remember when I was a squatter in Berlin, is free vets. I used to have pet rats, and once I wanted one of them castrated. I vet did this for free. Find a free vet in the USA! I have kept rats as pets in the USA, and the vet visits can run over 60 dollars a visit, much less any kind of surgery. In Germany you can get a rat castrated for free!

The following are my favorite German words that I acquired over the years.

schongeist: someone who doesnt take things seriously, already a ghost, slaphappy

vogelfrei: someone who no law protects, the birds are free to peck.

leitkultur: the dominant culture in any land

lustig: playfully exuberant, piss-taking

verreken: perish, croak, die screaming

That's what foreigners cant understand, when Americans move overseas to live, they think of the USA as an exciting experiment, but its quite banal. As you say, our prowess is military, and military is the most banal response of all to any given event. To live banally in Germany is not unlike living banally in the USA.
I was in S.F. back in the times, when they first consinderd AIDS, but I came with an german edition of the "SPIEGEL", print of course, back in that time, and people in S.F. did not really now about this new health danger due to us-informationpolitics. So, as they understood the implications of this article, they seemed a little bit shocked.
So you can never say, that U.S. is faster then Germoney
Regarding the news...
Today, by the way...
Germany said finally
we are looking for the best way to store nuklear waste 1000000 years long...
Any questions?
