To some people, a café without music, laptops, or strollers to stumble over might sound like the perfect place to relax. But parents in Berlin have complained they feel discriminated against by a new coffee shop with incredibly strict rules.

I love to read with good coffee--better than I can brew--at hand. Music, laptops and even lovely children and their somewhat less lovely doting (or complaining) parents make it impossible to concentrate on the text. This cafe, one that caters to quietude in this age of busyness and noise, is such a welcomed respite. Objectors, there must be more than one cafe with good coffee for you. Search for them, please. I am not in Berlin, but my next trip there, I will certainly patronize the The Barn - Roastery, if it remains like it is today.

What a great start? Just after four days whole Berlin knows that your café offers the best coffee in town. Simply remarkable! In an area which is fixed so much on the needs of young families with children mouth to mouth propaganda immediately starts when their wishes are not met. As long as those who dare to come are not stigmatised the owner of “The Barn – Roastery” won't complain on a bad turnover. It would be interesting to see whether he can survive. Angry mothers are a strong force nowadays. They are capable of doing every outrage.
