A video of a young woman's execution by the Taliban for alleged adultery has shocked the world. But local officials say that the brutal incident is just another sign that the Islamist militants have maintained their dominance in many parts of the country, despite over a decade of fighting US and NATO forces.

In business school I've been taught that to make things happen you simply have to know and do what needs to be done. Indeed it has worked well for me in the corporate setting where most things are straightforward. In the Euro crisis, decision makers, I'm sure, know what needs to be done but they can't do it. Why? Politics. But fortunately I've been a politician myself having been elected to the House of Representatives in my country the Philippines. In politics, it seems, there's so much to consider. But, at the end of the day, it's doing the right thing that works best and creates the most political goodwill. So my advise to these fumbling Euro technocrats and politicians is, just do it! It's going to pay for itself. Trust me. I've been there.
