Default Get Mobile with Our New*App: 'DER SPIEGEL in English' Now Available*for iPhone

SPIEGEL ONLINE has released its first app for the international market, DER SPIEGEL in English for the iPhone and iPod Touch. The app is available for download free of charge, with access to content requiring a subscription. It's a good deal too, with six months of quality journalism delivered for about the price of a latte and an exclusive offline reading function.

Default Android?

Great e-move for your magazine.

Based on the fact that Android phones outsell iPhone globally I certainly hope that the software release for that platform will follow soon.

Kind regards

Default Reasonable subscription price

The subscription price recognises the fact that no matter how good the content (and it is excellent!), there are just so many sources iPod/iPad readers can call on that it is often hard to find the time to keep up to date with them all, much as one would love to.

And I'm supposed to be retired with more time on my hands! I hope an iPad version is in the works, but can see that iPhones are where the volume is. At least for the time being.

Sadly the price is AUD for Australian subscribers is more than the US price despite the AUD being worth more than the USD. But that seems to happen all the time, sadly.

Default Android too

I can only reiterate the comments above about an Android app. Logically it should be the first app to be considered.

Default Not a good idea.

Now. Tell me again why I should pay for a content I can read free otherwise?

I really think Speigel is not well known in English speaking countries and it has a niche reader base including me. I love the magazine and it's nontraditionally cold perspective to the news. However, I would probably be not reading it anymore if I have to pay. I am already paying for FT and the Economist. Another payment would be not possible.

Leave the things the way it is. The English site does not have sufficient number of potentially paying users anyways.

It will end up hurting readers and Speiegel's prestige.

Thanks Speigel.

Default Renewal/Cancellation?

When I go to subscribe it says "This subscription will automatically renew until cancelled".

What it doesn't say is HOW to cancel it when the time comes.

Can anyone explain that?

Go to your iPhone account and under Subscriptions uncheck automatic renewal.
